10/12/2004 - Milk updated!

A new version of Milk is available, these are the changes:

Milk 2.5
- Added a baby blue selection color. This was well needed for usability and contrast and made it easier to make certain buttons such as the toggle state of some of the buttons in iCal and iTunes.
- Added appSkins for QuickTime, VLC, iCal, Calculator, TextEdit and Installer.
- Updated appSkins for iChat, Address Book, Safari, iTunes and Help Viewer.
- Themed Font Panel.
- Improved contrast of indeterminate progressbars and scrollbars.
- Bundled the desktop pictures and icon set in the guiKit.
- Added two new desktop pictures; ‘Solid Baby Blue’ and ‘Baby Blue Milk Splash’.
- Added improved iSync menu extra.
- Customized list alternating rows color.
- Hopefully solved the bug with text not appearing.
- Mini buttons (mostly used in Safari) now have the text vertically centered.
- Changed the inactive state for scrollbars.
- Removed the inactive state from segments buttons which means that the save dialog’s back/forward buttons will look better.
- Changed the Metal window bevels to use transparency, this means the iChat invitation windows look better.
- Changed the Chocolate menus to be a bit darker.

its great max, just one little gripe of mine… please include a camino theme! i remember there being one for milk a while ago but it seems to have dissappeared. that would make this theme completely number one in my mind.

Simply wonderful. I have always beem a fane of your work. 90% of the time it’s your themes that appear on my desktop. Thank you for the wonderful update.

One thing, though. Did you consider using the same blue as the Label’O’s theme? You should definitely consider it. Right now I have that Label’O’s blue wave desktop with the folder replacement and Milk. I find they go amazing together (seriously, give it a try). The look is REALLY cool. Just wish it were the darker blue, that’s all.

Its not the inconsistency between the highlights and the desktop that I dislike so much, it is shade of blue. The baby is nice but the Label’O’s blue just pops.

Hey, great theme. One small problem, I can’t use this theme for the fact that non-Mac users wouldn’t be able to find the window control buttons (x,-,+). I have friends and potential switchers use my computer often, if you added those symbols, than I could use this theme. Thanks for all the great themes, I check your site almost everyday.

very nice theme. 2.2 was good, but 2.5 is awesome. keep up the good work.

Mark, thanks for telling me, but these are the people that start looking for the buttons on the right side of the window. Normally in other themes, like the standard aqua, the “trafic lights” attract them. It was just a small request to save them time and frustration.

REALLY nice theme, but one question: How do I disable the blue? Was never a fan of this particular shade.

Otherwise brilliant theme, but the blue is kinda clashing with my overall sterile motif.

Using Milk 2.1 for now (does that version have a safari skin?).

Is there another place that I can download this theme. When I click on the link it says Mac OS X doesn’t recognize addresses starting with guikit.

LOVE THIS THEME! I use your themes ALWAYS. I do it simple with themes. I used to use smoothstripes clear gloss ALL THE TIME. NOW its blue) milk chocolate all the way! I LOVE the blue color, with the transparent menus, AWESOME!!

Karl, you need ShapeShifter 2 to download the new Milk. It’s not compatible with older versions.

I love Milk. Also tried one of the varients with the metal stripe - very cool, looking forward to it’s update. One small bug of note. I email from multiple addresses in OS X Mail and the tab to choose which account it’s coming from is black text on black back.

mbstuart - The black on black I believe is a bug in SS’s way of handling the customized text colors. I think a new SS version is needed.

I personally really like the blue color, I never used Milk personally before, but now that I added some color and more appskins, it’s my theme of choice. I understand that adding color to a white and grey theme would not go over well with everyone and I’m considering making grey variations and perhaps more color variations for a future update. My biggest gripe against adding color variations is that for each color, the file size would pretty much double.

I’ve gone trough all these comments and added the suggestions to my Milk suggestion folder.

Btw, I think the spam filter deleted a post about different color variations such as a orange, if you who posted that read this - I did see your post and like I said, I’m considering making more color variations.

doesn’t work for me (Safari, 10.3.5).

Safari just loads the url as a page, and I can’t see a way to do a “Download url as link” choice with contextual menu, since this doesn’t seem to work on the contents of the Safari box.

Now I am trying downloading it with SiteSucker, very slow on my dial-up connexion so it’ll be nearly 20 minutes before I know if it worked or not.

Even if it does, I’m sure you don’t want people to have to go to such lengths to DL your theme!BTW, if you don’t use Milk personally as your reply says, may I ask what is the reason and what you do use?

first off, i *love* milk - thankyou! I recentaly reverted to the default aqua and I just couldn’t believe how inferior it is to milk

however, i hate the color blue. not just this blue, all shades of blue. please please please provide a grey/white variation - it just wouldnt be milk without it!

But I’d also like to have the option to get back to the gray for menu selections.

Personally I really like the GUI to be just grey or white (like Milk 2.2) I mean, there’s so much color on websites and in photos, videos, art, games etc. that is displayed on my computer. I don’t see the need for the GUI itself to be colorful.
But of course it should be there as an option!

I always liked the milk themes, especially the chocolate one w/o chrome. But suddenly you put in a way too bright blue w/o the option to remove it? And I can’t find Milk 2.2 anymore! Please would you be so kind to repost it somewhere on your site?

Some of the updates to Milk 2.5 are cool, but I really do not like the blue. I was sad to see that Milk Chrome (in 2.2) was not updated. I like the chrome look in 2.2 and, to me, it looks like milk.

I take it that there is a demand for a color less version of Milk, I’ll make sure to make such variations for an upcoming release.

Cynthia Cheney - what I forgot to mention in regards to the guiKit problems, you need to press alt-enter when you’ve put it in your addressfield, then it will download it right away.
