01/01/2006 - SmoothStripes 5 & Aqua Extreme 3

No, I’m not dead. Just haven’t been in the mood to do any theming or updates here. And no, I’m not quiting theming, I’m just taking it in my own pace.

I do intend to update my other themes to theme iTunes 6, I know they are not very usable in their current state. I can’t give you any time frame, but Milk and Aluminum Alloy are my top priorities.

Anyhow, since I use SmoothStripes on my computer at work I’ve made an update to the that theme. My intention when I first saw Tigers many different GUI parts was to try and bring it all together in a consistent theme. However, I haven’t really done that since I realize there are just too many applications and too many bits and pieces to change. But I have done something that I think might bring it together a little. The new SS and AE themes now includes the new metal style from iTunes and applies it system wide:

I’ve also made a new wait cursor that I’m happy with. It’s derived from the Aqua blob used in the 10.2 betas, but leaves the cursor intact which makes it easier to click around.

These are the changes:
SmoothStripes 5 & Aqua Extreme 3
• Compatible with iTunes 6.0.1
• New Metal style from iTunes applied system wide.
• Removed square variants to simplify maintenance.
• New wait cursor bundled with the guiKit versions.
• Minor changes.

Aqua Extreme for Mac OS X 10.4:

Aqua Extreme 3 [6,6 MB]

SmoothStripes for Mac OS X 10.4:
SmoothStripes 5 [0,6 MB]

Hey thanks a lot for updating the site! The themes look great! Kepp it up.

Max : did i already say that i love you ?
i’m already using a homemade Leopard mod with your blue widgets smoothstripe’s elements, but i had a bug with safari’s tabs. Now this is perfect. Hum, did i already say that i love you ? ;)

Um, I’ve tried to install both and the installer keeps starting up trying a custom install with everything greyed out. But if I try to do easy install, it says there is nothing to install. I even tried the guikit download and nothing changes.

Any chance of releasing the cursor for people who’s on the dark side? :)

XP user here. Thanks. Keep up the great work.

Max, this is an excellent theme. By doing away with the metal affect, you have effectively implemented Apple’s guidelines better than they have: grey apps, for the most part, are to do with information management and viewing, while Aqua apps, all unified, are to do with information and knowledge creation. Thanks very much indeed. I hope that Apple takes a look at this and learns from it!

A perfect replacement for Uno 1.2 I had to use in the meantime.
How to apply this theme to Mail?

Hey!! Can’t install either of the packages. First, couldn’t download the kits. Downloaded mpkg files, opened them and tried to install, to get to an alert saying “there’s nothing to install” with all components ticked “skip” … what’s up??

Phenomenal stuff, Max. Keep up the good work. Thanks ever zo much, René Boekhorst, The Netherlands.

I like the cleaner metal. Though I’d like to see it done in a lighter shade.
