17/08/2004 - Almost Complete Theme Template

Seeing how theme mockups are all the rage lately, this is an effort to try and help themers get a good overlook of all the elements that a theme consist of and in that way help them get their theme more consistent and focused. This way you can work out all the graphics needed in Photoshop, and move into Theme Park only when you are ready. Or even, let someone else construct the theme from the completed graphics.

Almost all the elements that make up a complete theme are included in these templates. There are also helpful appSkin templates that have the symbols extracted from the buttons.

It’s not fully completed yet, if you read the Read Me you’ll find out how you can help out making this a better and more complete template.

06/08/2004 - My Situation

I was supposed to continue my internship at the Iconfactory studio this week, coming back from a five week summer holiday. However, that changed when I learned that it’s not possible to use the studio no more, since there is work being done on the facade. They said it would take at least two months before the studio would be operable again.
So that forced me to quit the internship, because the unemployment office would not let me wait for two months because they had put aside money for just that period. And Kate and Dave thought being a studio assistant would require a studio.
It’s a shame, but I learned a lot in the short time I was there though.

I’m now back to applying for jobs. But I got a plan figured out.. I’m not just going to responding to applications anymore, because that’s apparently useless.
Instead I thought I’d make a really nice printed portfolio. Then I’ll look up companies that sounds interesting and visit them and drop of the portfolio. I’m not sure how effective it will be, but I hope it will work.

I find it difficult determining exactly what kind of job I should apply for, where my skills would be useful. I’m going to include stuff like the Play Time icon set, 3 themes, some picture work, one vector logo and two dvd covert art works. It will all be in print, and I use the high res originals for the icons so they should look nice. And I’ve made custom snapshots of the themes containing as much elements as possible to show the kind of work that goes into it.

I thought that you reading this could perhaps give me tips on type of jobs, best way to present a portfolio etc. Or even, if you are a employer located in the Stockholm area in Sweden - I want a job, hire me!

The backup plan is to apply for stipendiums to go abroad and study, but I haven’t looked into that that much.

I’m also going to try and get a driving license. I’ve been a private student driver since January and I got it sorta figured. But now I’ve booked a lesson at the driving school so that I can finish up. I got the first lesson on Monday. I bet it will be much more giving than driving with my parents because they are not that good teachers..
FYI, Swedes are not allowed to get a license until 18 years of age, it’s possible to start practicing at 16 though.

So that’s my life at the moment I guess.

04/08/2004 - Classic Platinum 2.0 by Comie

Comie Prevette has finished updating Classic Platinum for Panther. He has done a superb job with it, much better than I would have. It includes all the colors from OS 9, a total of 20 variations!
As some might recall, I handed over the theme to Comie and he now maintains it.

Head over to Machina Mawd to download it!

27/07/2004 - Help! My .mac account is sending spam

Apparently my .mac email account is being used to send a lot of spam right now and I keep getting these emails from .mac saying:

Dear user of mac.com,

Your account was used to send a huge amount of junk e-mail messages during this week.
We suspect that your computer was infected by a recent virus and now contains a hidden proxy server.

We recommend you to follow instruction in order to keep your computer safe.

Have a nice day,
mac.com technical support team.

And attached is a zip file that wont open.. So I don’t have any instructions to follow. I’ve never had this problem before so I don’t know what to do about it.. Anyone got a good tip for a program that might help me solve this?

20/07/2004 - Play Time icon set released!

You might already have heard this on other pages, because I was unable to write a news post until now.

Anyway, the icon set that I’ve been working on is finally complete and ready for download! It contains 12 high quality icons and 10 of them have drop states as well. The theme for the icon set is console gaming and I’ve made the Xbox, GameCube and PlayStation 2 in a bunch of colors, as well as two game heroes; Samus Aran from Metroid and Masterchief from HALO.

I hope you will enjoy it

Go to the download page.

17/07/2004 - Release Date for My Iconset

The release date is now set for tuesday the 20th. I’ve completed the icons and I just need to work out the packaging. The icons will be mentioned on the Iconfacory homepage, but the download page will be on my site. There will also be simultaneous release for Windows.
The theme of the iconset is games and the set consists of 12 icons, 10 which also has an open drop state. Hopefully MacThemes will post an insider with me before tuesday and you will be able to get more background facts about me and the iconset :)

Update: There were some glitches with the blog comment system, but that should be working now. There is still a glitch with the left column, the poll overlaps the links. I’m hoping this will get worked out as well.

05/07/2004 - Aqua Extreme Tiger 1.0.1

I’ve made a small fix with these changes:

Aqua Extreme Tiger 1.0.1
ï Moved the right cap 1 pixel to the right to fix the broken curve.
ï The Graphite variant had a Blue Display menu extra, this has been fixed and it now has a Graphite Display menu extra.

Enjoy!

04/07/2004 - Aqua Extreme Tiger available

As I said I would in the forums, I’ve made a small Aqua Extreme variant that includes the glossy menubar shown in the Tiger Preview.
It also has the blue caps on the left and right. To make the right cap work properly, you need to move the Display menu extra to the far right. There is more info on this in the read me. The menu extra next to the Display menu extra will be too close together, but I couldn’t find a way to increase the space between them.

Go to the download page.

21/06/2004 - New Site Coding!

Now the recoded site is live. It should look almost the same as the old one, but with a cleaner poll and counter and faster loading times. There are also a lot of spelling errors fixed and some minor updates to the themes pages with links to a few new ports etc. There still isn’t any blog system though, that is yet to be done.

Almost all of the coding was done by Kenny Pollock, and he did it for free!
So if you have any coding/design job you want done, you can find his website at the bottom of this page.

For all of you waiting for NickelCobalt, I might have some good news. I’ve talked with Paul Johnson and he said he will try to make me the button images by next monday. Then my five week summer vacation starts, and if I have the buttons, the theme should be able to progress a lot.

My iconset is still in the works. So far I’ve made eleven icons, ten of which was done pretty quickly, while the last one took two weeks or so.. I’m working on a last two week icon, and when that is done I need to fix all the packing and uploading. I hope I’ll be able to release it during the vacation so it doesn’t take too long to get it out.

That’s all for now :)

11/06/2004 - This and That

I’m still working on my iconset, but I only have one icon or so left, so it should probably be out in one or two weeks.

iTunes 4.6 came out, and I tried iFix with it and it still works fine. I have however updated iFix, but that is purely cosmetical to tell that it’s compatible with 4.6. If you already have iFix downloaded, you can simply reinstall it after you upgraded to iTunes 4.6.

I’m in the process of looking into changing my homepage to css coding, but I want to figure out how it works before it goes live. I will also get a real blog system sometime, and then I’ll be able to make these news post much more frequent!
